In the book of Matthew, chapter 3:13-17 John the Baptist baptized Jesus. To signify the start of His ministry, we learn the following:

16 And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

The dove signified the indwelling of the spirit of God within Jesus. When God spoke, He was letting the witnesses there that day know who Jesus was and that He went forth with His blessing to spread the gospel.

When we take the steps of salvation, it is our recognition of Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross. We desire for him to be our savior and ask him to come into our heart to live so that we can be more like Him (the dove). That experience initiates a relationship with Christ.

The next step is baptism. Baptism signifies the start of our own personal journey as disciples. This is our outward expression of our faith and belief in Jesus being the Son of God and the Son of Man. He is our Lord and Savior and through Him we have access to the Kingdom of God. This lets the world know we are His and we are ready to serve Him more deeply.

It doesn’t matter if you have been saved for weeks, months, or years, if you feel you are ready to take that next step, and you are ready to commit to that relationship with Christ as His disciple, then we want to offer you the opportunity each quarter to be baptized.
